The story of Carhartt began in Detroit, Michigan at the end of the 19th century, when the young entrepreneur Hamilton Carhartt started producing hard-wearing workwear. A century later, Carhartt garments entered the world of fashion — particularly streetwear — thanks to their reputation for durability. Since 1989, Carhartt WIP, an independent Carhartt Work In Progress company in Europe, has continued that tradition by producing durable clothing that goes beyond workwear and forms part of independent fashion.
